What can Velocity back up?
Velocity can back up SQL Server databases and files and folders on your PC. A single backup job can protect one database, several databases, or all selected databases.
Is Velocity SQL Server backup software?
Yes. Velocity can connect to SQL Server, allow you to select the databases you want to protect, and run scheduled database backups automatically.
Where can Velocity store backups?
Velocity supports backup destinations including a folder on the local PC or a connected drive, an FTP/FTPS server, and Google Drive. You can use one destination or multiple destinations.
Can Velocity run scheduled backups when the app is closed?
Yes. Velocity uses a background service to run scheduled backup jobs even when the main application window is closed, provided the computer is available at the scheduled time.
Does Velocity support full, incremental and differential backups?
Yes. Velocity supports full, incremental and differential backup types, allowing you to choose the backup method appropriate for each job.
What happens if a backup fails?
Velocity can automatically retry a failed backup after a short wait, using a delay sequence such as 1, 5 and 15 minutes. This can help a temporary network or destination problem recover without requiring an immediate manual restart.
Can Velocity restore a SQL Server database without overwriting the live database?
Yes. If a database with the same name already exists, Velocity restores it under a new, date-stamped name instead of replacing the existing database.
Does Velocity support file and folder backup?
Yes. You can select folders and individual files and use include and exclude rules to control what is included in the backup.
How does licensing work?
A licence is tied to the computer. You can start a free trial or activate a licence key, and see the days remaining any time on the main screen.
Does Velocity work with SQL Server Express?
Yes. SQL Server Express has no SQL Server Agent to schedule backups. Velocity runs scheduled jobs through its own background service, so Express databases are backed up on schedule like any other edition.
